Our Client, a well known reputable organisation is seeking to appoint a Data Centre Facilities Engineer to join the business in a permanent capacity.

To be successful in this role and due to the sensitivity on the data you’ll be exposed too, the Client is only seeking applications from those that hold Australian Citizenship and who are eligible to undergo a security clearance.

Reporting into the Manager for Data Centre and Networks, you will be responsible for providing weekly oversight across all data centre facilities operations and ensuring all third party contractor activity is recorded and managed against the agreed DC maintenance schedule.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Acts as the interface between local contractors and employees responsible for the maintenance and operation of the facility, including electrical systems, mechanical systems, security contractors, and all other aspects of data centre facility operation.
  • Monitor and manage incoming Field service reports (FSRs) of critical data centre facilities units and ensure that all schedule visits are met within time tolerances of +/- 10 business days.
  • Review all data centre components and devices so as to ensure accuracy of serial numbers, passwords, IP addresses, connectivity and reporting.
  • Rack-and-Stack IT Infrastructure, conduct cabling whilst adhering to change control policies and procedures.
  • Partake in internal and external audits involving high level clients.
  • Act as the SME and first point of contact for data centre relates issues and queries.
  • Ensure all data centre facility devices are registered and monitored via management tools.
  • Maintaining technical documentation, reports, records, contacts, device passwords regarding all datacentres, server rooms, communication rooms and communication cabinets.
  • Conducting acceptance tests upon DC equipment given correct testing procedure.
  • Acting as an interface between the organisation and suppliers/carriers/vendors regarding high level technical issues.
  • Monitoring the performance of the organisation’s communications carriers/network providers in relation to established service level agreements (SLAs) and business needs.
  • Communicating with both internal and external clients when, and where, appropriate.
  • Partaking in TaPS meetings, sharing technological information with colleagues.
  • Be flexible and willing to perform other tasks as assigned by management

Selection Criteria:

  • Australian Citizenship essential due to security clearance being required / applied for by Client
  • Minimum two years experience in a similar role
  • Relevant industry certifications / University degree
  • An understanding of Datacentre facilities concepts such as UPS power, CRAC cooling, operational standards, generators and Fire Suppression etc.
  • High competence and understanding of change control procedures, audit compliance (PCI,ISMS.)
  • An understanding of emerging technologies in the communications sphere and their potential commercial application.
  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem and analytical solving skills.
  • Operational knowledge of networking systems and software covering both Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs).
  • Experience and ability with common programming language such C, Python or ANSI SQL
  • Experience in physical racking of IT infrastructure server, networking equipment and cabling.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills coupled with a customer service orientation.
