The Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for the analysis, building and maintaining of the Business Intelligence framework within the Division. This encompasses the continued development and support of the Corporate Data Warehouse, along with the development and maintenance of strategic and operational reporting primarily using SAP ETL and reporting tools. The position may also be involved in the administration and upgrades to the existing infrastructure toolset from time to time as directed and supported by the Chief Data Officer.

The role will also be responsible for assisting in the developing and implementing of strategies for supporting and promoting the effective use of Business Intelligence across the business, and providing advanced training as required. The Business Intelligence Analyst will be a key member of the company’s reporting team, and will have significant contact with staff of all levels, both for requirement gathering and training purposes.

The position is responsible and accountable for the day to day running of the Business Intelligence framework, and will be a key member of the reporting group. The reporting group encompasses both the data warehouse and the business intelligence function, and works alongside the information analysis group and survey group. All groups are directly responsible to the Chief Data Officer.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will have considerable contact with a diverse range of positions within the business including members of the executive, heads of organisational areas, users and potential users of business intelligence. The nature of this contact will vary from information sharing, training, provision of advice, consulting, and gathering requirements for new reporting solutions.

The position will also work in partnership with the data warehouse and information analysis groups in the planning and delivery of reporting solutions from the data warehouse and other divisional systems as required.

This position reports to the Business Intelligence Manager for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing Project Scoping for new and upcoming projects.
  • Supporting Reporting & Analysis with data management, transformation & Analysis of data.
  • Building an Analysis problem frame with the end-customer and translating analysis into business terms.
  • Delivering compelling presentations and messaging materials that meet stakeholder preferences.
  • Maintaining knowledge of emerging trends in higher education and data analysis and how these might lead to appropriate initiatives.
  • Liaising with key business partners to elicit and translate business requirements into functional and technical documents for the purpose of developing data structures, ETL processes and reports as required.
  • Ensuring the quality of data is maintained to a high level to support the divisional information requirements.
  • Assisting with business intelligence and/or data warehouse system upgrades from time to time.
  • Designing and perform quality training of staff wishing to access the BI systems.
  • Maintaining a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

Selection Criteria

  • Education, training and/or experience equivalent to the completion of relevant postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications extensive relevant experience in data warehouse and business intelligence systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in data warehouse methods and processes, particularly in the area of dimensional modelling and its application to reporting processes.
  • Broad Experience in gathering functional requirements and transforming these into technical specifications including the articulation of the logical and physical data model, ETL and reporting layer needs.
  • Demonstrated technical capability to utilise analytics and data visualisation toolsets to enhance decision making, along with knowledge and demonstrated experience applying data visualisation best practices to enhance the user experience.
  • Capacity to work independently with an eye for accuracy and attention to detail, using professional judgement and initiative in ways that enhance the organisation’s value and contribute to a high quality analysis as a driver of evidence-based decision making.
  • Ability to work well with others and be an excellent communicator and collaborator across multiple areas comprising of technical and business stakeholders and leaders.

Desirable

  • Experience with SAP Business Objects Data Services or similar ETL toolset.
  • Experience with either Tableau, Power BI, or SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Suite.
  • Experience in PL/SQL development.
  • Exposure to Predictive Analytics in a business environment.
