About the role:

A major Federal Government department in Canberra is currently recruiting for five APS5 Parliamentary Support Officers to join their team on a temporary basis. This opportunity is to start as soon as possible until the end of this year.

You will be accountable for undertaking a range of procedural, operational and administrative tasks and activities. You will be accountable to organise your own work and deliver in accordance with your team leader’s advice and team plans.

Your responsibilities:

As the positions will play a role in delivering key outcomes for the branch, depending upon the role, your key responsibilities could include the following:

  • Managing incoming and outgoing referral correspondence
  • Drafting and sending responses on behalf of the Department
  • Completing quality checks on parliamentary documentation to ensure only the highest standard is provided to Ministerial offices and the Departmental Executive.
  • Share responsibility for the outputs and work delivery of other team members, ensuring more junior staffs are appropriately developed and contributing to the goals and priorities of the team.
  • Experience in, or willingness and capacity to learn the following will be highly regarded: PDMS, Parliamentary procedures, Engagement with Minister’s Officers and interest in parliament and functions of parliament.

To be successful:

In order to be successful, you will have prior experience in a similar role along with:

  • Strong communication skills and customer engagement experience.
  • Ability to problem-solve independently and think strategically.
  • Strong proofreading and editorial skills
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under tight deadlines.
