About the Health Products Regulation Group

Regulation that protects and enhances the health and safety of the community is a major component of a high quality health system. The Health Products Regulation Group supports timely access to products that will help achieve better health and wellbeing, whilst checking that these products do not themselves put Australians' health and safety at risk. We achieve this through regulation of therapeutic goods and certain controlled drugs and drug substances. This applies to all such goods exported, imported, supplied and manufactured in Australia.

The Opportunity

Medical Device Reforms Officer APS5 – (Ongoing, Non-ongoing, Fulltime, Part-Time)

The APS5 Medical Device Reforms Officer works under limited direction and undertakes moderately complex work, including handling customer enquiries relating to medical devices via telephone, email and written correspondence, and providing administrative support to the team of medical device assessors. This role is informed and directed by sound knowledge in an area of specialisation as required and may undertake specialist or technical research and analysis activities.

Devices Emerging Technology Section

The Section was established to provide HPRG with support in researching and keeping abreast of emerging medical device technology. The team works closely with assessment teams to share knowledge and information, is progressing a number of specific reforms related to emerging technology, identifies, educates and engages with relevant stakeholders (including a large number of new stakeholders) and develops and reviews the regulations and guidance to ensure they are fit for purpose.

Skills Required

Duties within this position are not limited to, but may include:

  • Managing record keeping and responses to stakeholder enquiries and provide policy and administrative support to the Devices Emerging Technology and Diagnostics Section
  • Developing and maintaining internal and external relationships
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders on policy, project or operational issues and assist in the development of guidance material
  • Undertaking research, analysis and evaluation of technical information and exercising delegation where appropriate
  • Providing timely, professional and accurate advice on issues relating to medical devices regulation, interpretation of legislation, guidelines, best-practice in relation to emerging technologies
  • Providing administrative assistance to the Section
  • Contributing expertise to branch communications and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative and diverse workplace culture in line with the APS Code of Conduct and iCare Values.

Eligibility

  • Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required).
