Though employment activity is currently slowing down in some countries, Singapore will continue to recruit overseas workers, it has been asserted.
Acting minister for manpower Gan Kim Yong stated at a parliamentary session this week that the influx of overseas workers to Singapore will slow, but the country's economy "still needs foreign workers", reported AsiaOne.
Foreign workers who take jobs in Singapore are allowing firms to thrive, stay within the country and keep employing, which in turn boosts competitiveness, he added.
Gan stated that when it comes to the future, the government has plans to "closely monitor the employment situation."
He commented, "What is more important is to help local workers become more employable and more resilient. This will be a win-win outcome. Win for companies and win for our workers."In other Singapore employment news, the country's prime minister Lee Hsien Loong announced earlier this month that employees hitting retirement age this year may be offered the option to work for a further three years.
