An increase in carbon trading will create millions of employment opportunities for Australian workers, according to a leading scientific group.
The Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organization (CSIRO) has claimed that an emission trading scheme will expand existing industries and create new labor market segments in agriculture, manufacturing, construction and transportation.
Encouraging "innovative thinking", the lobbying group urged private and public sector companies to create a sustainable, resource efficient economy while a "window" of opportunity remains.
Writing for ABC News Online, Dr Heinz Schandl, senior science leader for the CSIRO, outlined specific areas where employment can be increased.
He said: "In some cases, new fields of employment may emerge, e.g. in the manufacturing of pollution-control technologies.
"Secondly, some employment will be substituted, e.g. when shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy solutions or from land-filling to recycling."
The Australian government has also recently revealed a number of contractors to run the Job Services Australia scheme, the Brisbane Times reported.© Adfero Ltd
