As part of our ongoing commitment to understanding and shaping the world of work, every year Randstad
conducts the largest global independent employment survey
into employer branding trends. According to Aussies, the industry sectors considered to be the most attractive to work in this year are:
2. Mining & natural resources
3. Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)
4. Federal Government
Understanding how Australian workers view a company in terms of career prospects is crucial for business leaders – because even if your business has a strong employer brand, if the industry it operates in is seen as unattractive, this dilutes the strength of your unique employer value proposition to prospective employees, and can hurt your chances of attracting and retaining top talent.
Interestingly, while the top industries are seen as attractive, each sector differs in terms of the reasons behind why Aussies want to work in them, for example:
- Mining & natural resources ranks high primarily for its learning opportunities, leadership and salary benefits. This is a sector which continues to grow in awareness and recognition. Top employers in this sector for 2013 are Newcrest Mining, Rio Tinto and BHP.
- Coming in at third place, the FMCG industry has a strong reputation for good work life balance and can thank job security and flexible working arrangements for the main reasons why its sector is so attractive. Top employers in this sector for 2013 are Coca-Cola Amatil, Nestle and Lion.
